Getting Involved

Get involved

The whole community has its place in the Catholic Life of the school.

It is certainly not simply something for the pupils who come from Catholic families. Everyone is welcome to take a full part. Muslim, Hindu and Jewish pupils, and pupils with no religious background at all, are just as much a part of the community as those baptised and brought up in Catholic families.

A significant number of pupils come from other parts of the Christian world. Everyone is welcome to take a part in our worship.

The Schola Cantorum and Consort enrich our worship with music drawn from the Christian choral tradition built around the structure of the Church’s ancient Gregorian chant. This involves large numbers of pupils in the choir pews.

Sacristans and servers assist the priests by serving at the altar and taking responsibility for preparations in the sacristy. A Head Sacristan in St Philip House organises a rota of junior boys to assist at their weekly house Mass.

We are fortunate in having two resident priests and the help of a number of priests from local parishes and the Oxford Oratory community. It is their privilege to get to know pupils, staff, and families as the years go by.

The Catholic Faith and the two chapels are central to the school’s life, ethos and identity. Newman’s vision of an education for the whole person through individual care has always involved mind, body, and soul.

Chapel Charities

Each year we have a dedicated chapel charity for which we pray and raise money.  In recent years these have included the Apostleship of the Sea and Aid to the Church in Need. In November the school is lit up as part of ACN's Red Wednesday for persecuted Christians.
