Oratory 4th Form pupils complete their Higher Project Qualifications (HPQ)

Congratulations to pupils in our 4th Form on the successful completion of their Higher Project Qualification (HPQ).
The HPQ is a Level 2 qualification that allows pupils to explore a topic of their choice, extending their learning beyond the standard curriculum and preparing them for further studies. Pupils are required to design, research, and develop a 2,000-word essay or an artefact, which encourages them to focus on skills such as planning and decision-making.
This year, Oratory pupils covered a diverse range of topics that included:
- To what extent can an absurdist be authentic and moral?
- Have women’s rights changed as a result of the Iranian revolution?
- What’s the difference between hallucinations and apparitions?
- Is hydrogen a viable energy source?
- Does prolonged zero gravity exposure affect an astronaut’s bone density?
The HPQ is equivalent to GCSE grades A* - C or grades 9 - 4, making it a valuable addition to our pupil's qualifications.
Dr Maloney, Head of HPQ, says, "Throughout the process of the HPQ, the pupils excelled in tackling the challenges posed by researching such intricate and thought-provoking questions. From exploring novel scientific concepts and processes to investigating political, philosophical, and ethical issues, they have stretched themselves far beyond their initial understanding of their research fields.
After a challenging but rewarding year, the HPQ process culminated in a series of absorbing and inspiring presentations which displayed the student's outstanding knowledge and research skills."
Well done to all involved!
