Oratory Hockey 1st XI team become Berkshire Schools' League Winners for a Fourth Consecutive Year

The Oratory School hockey 1st XI sealed a fourth straight Berkshire Schools’ League title following a 2-0 win against Holyport College.

The victory completed an outstanding unbeaten campaign which included six wins against Claires Court, LVS Ascot, Reading Blue Coat, Reddam House, Shiplake College and Holyport, along with a draw versus Leighton Park.

There was also joy for the 2nd XI as they claimed the Group B title for the first time, taking the spoils ahead of Shiplake, Leighton Park and Blue Coat.

Victoria Watson, Head of Oratory Hockey says, “It has been great to see the number of girls who wish to play hockey increasing since going co-educational five years ago.

“The girls have continued to train hard and dig deeper on the pitch in times when they have found themselves down, but have managed to turn the games around due to their team spirit, determination and of course, skill.

“I am extremely proud of all the girls who have represented these two teams this season and it has been a privilege to coach them. My 1st XI Captain, Bonnie, has been on the winning side for the past four years and I thank her leading the team this year.”

The girls celebrated their achievements at the annual Hockey Dinner and were delighted to welcome current Great Britain and England player, Phil Roper, as guest speaker.

Roper gave an inspirational talk about his hockey journey and made the formula for top-level sport, and a successful life, simple and accessible. It was a real honour to be in such esteemed company.
