Oratory Cricket Girls' U15s record 10 wicket victory in first competitive fixture

A combined team of Oratory Cricket U14 and U15 girls travelled to Pangbourne for their first competitive fixture.

We won the toss and elected to field first. 9 of the squad of 13 bowled during the 100 ball innings. Early wickets tumbled as J. Bryan and A. Burton bowled with pace and accuracy. The Pangbourne middle order steadied the ship but relatively few runs were scored off the bat. Their innings closed on 85-5. There were also impressive spells for E. Robertson and E. Hughes. There was a great atmosphere in the field as the girls supported each other with heaps of positive reinforcement, which was echoed by the coach.

In reply, L. Baker and E. Robertson opened the batting and stroked the ball to all parts of the ground and were particularly effective with the pull shot. They communicated well, pressured the fielding team and quickly took The Oratory to victory from less than 70 balls.

We look forward to a host of fixtures over the rest of the summer term and selection will be tough given the positive approach from all the girls involved.

Ian Jordan, Teacher of Maths and PE says, "We're very proud of what the girls have achieved in their first competitive fixture. They enjoyed the experience and were excellent company - although the minibus journey home was a little noisy!"
