6th Form English Literature Pupils visit Keats' House

A-Level English pupils went on a trip to the house where the Romantic poet, John Keats, lived in the early nineteenth century. They enjoyed strolling through the leafy suburbs of Hampstead, a tour of the house, and a workshop on the poem The Eve of St Agnes. This was followed by lunch and a stop at Daunt Books.

The talk on the biography of Keats was particularly gruesome as it included several items similar to the ones that Keats may have used as a trainee doctor: forceps, bone saws and teeth-drawing equipment!

The workshop leader was particularly inspirational, and her enthusiasm was infectious. Pupils felt that they took a lot from the visit, from close readings of Keats’s poetry to wider insights into his life and times.
