The Oratory Partners with the One Day Film School

To celebrate the start of the academic year and to encourage new year groups to get to know one another, The Oratory partnered with The One Day Film School for a fun-filled filmmaking day!

Students learnt the filmmaking essentials from Film History, which covered the early days of film, through to the latest in special effects. They had a go at fight choreography, analysing classic fight scenes and then filmed their own roundhouse punches. Camera technique instructions were also provided, with students learning to film like a pro, discovering all the tips and tricks needed to avoid common mistakes. Screenwriting skills were also developed as students were advised on the three things every good script needs, with valuable tips on how to create memorable characters that, most importantly, the audience care about.

Finally, the students all took the 10 Shot Challenge in groups to create silent (with music) films of up to two minutes, based on a classic film narrative.

The end of the day saw the School Oscars with judges from the Young Film Academy taking their seats for the world premiere of our Oratory students' films. Well done to the winners of Best Motion Picture: Criminal Love; Best Performance: Sochi, Run and Best Technical Achievement Acoustic Revenge!
