Oratory Sport Success at Radley Relays
On Thursday 25 April, 2 and ¾ relay teams travelled to the Radley Relays event at Radley College.
RESULTS
- Senior Boys 4 x 100m: Winners
- Intermediate Boys 4 x 100m: Silver
- Junior Boys 4 x 100m: 4th
The Oratory junior team of S. Zhu, G. Zhu, H. Connolly and F. Robinson were first up in the Junior 4 x 100m. They ran well, finishing 4th in a team time of 49 seconds from a field of 10 teams.
The Oratory Intermediate team comprised T. Aitken-Woods, G. Doyle, D. Nortey, and JJ McCarthy. T. Aitken-Woods got a great start and handed over to G. Doyle who tore away from the opposition, handing to D. Nortey who ran a great bend. The final leg was completed by JJ McCarthy who ran a blistering race, coming second in a team time of 47 seconds.
The Oratory senior team of S. Monye, C. Forsyth, JJ McCarthy and R. Mullin were last to race. S. Monye in lane 5, had passed lane 6 and lane 7 runners before he had travelled 50 metres, he passed the baton perfectly to C. Forsyth who tore down the back straight, eating up the gap between him and the Lane 8 runner, Another super hand over to JJ McCarthy, 2 years younger than the other runners, saw McCarthy maintain the lead around the bend to a final perfect handover to R. Mullin who stretched the lead further, winning by a second in a team time of 45.81 seconds.
These Oratory results are a huge achievement in an event that saw the school up against Radley College, Eton College, Rugby School, Abingdon School, Teddies and Magdalen College School. The Oratory came 5th overall at an event where we had only competed in 3 of the 9 events!
Well done to all the students and staff involved.
